After taking part in the Gloucestershire Challenge for Hope sportive for the last two years Will Hanks, a dedicated supporter of the Peace and Hope trust and keen cyclist, has decided to put on a sportive in Hereford with the help of a bunch of friends. The challenge for Hope Sportive Hereford is based at the Hereford Cathedral School Sports Ground which has first class facilities for use by the riders and even though it is in the city centre there are very good cycle path routes out of the city.
The event is being supported by the Gloucestershire team and is following the same successful formula for signing, catering and admin and so we are all looking forward to a well organised fun days riding. Will has set the routes and there are 25, 45 and 65 mile rides – including the Gospel Pass route within the 65 mile ride – to choose from with halfway stops providing homemade cake and refreshments. Entry forms are available this here and also on the British Cycling Federation site.
If you have any queries or would like Will to email you an entry form you can contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org
The sportive is raising funds for the work done in Bluefields, Nicaragua by The Peace and Hope Trust. The people of this very poor town in the poorest country in Central America need all the help they can get. The Peace and Hope Trust does a great deal of work building schools, clinics and skill centres. They also set up and aid local projects to train unemployed people, feed children who would otherwise be malnourished and help protect vulnerable young people from exploitation.
Education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty and the trust does all it can to get the poorest children into education in schools fit for purpose. They send out several containers each year full of donated equipment and materials for schools, clinics and hospitals in Bluefields.
It’s just a £25 donation per household to enter but if you can give or add a little more with sponsorship it would be gratefully received.
This Sportive is open to all. We welcome ‘the dead keen’ and ‘the family day out’ riders. The ‘tandem duos’ and the ‘dressed to impress’ brigade. Cyclists on electric bikes will also be very welcome to take part. All welcome.
