What We Do

Nicaragua

Nicaragua is a country in need. Our priority is to give support to the communities on The Moskito Shore (or the Atlantic Coast), within the Southern Autonomous Region.

Bluefields

The town of Bluefields is a busy port on the Atlantic Coast. Here the Trust has a Vocational Centre and model farm. Sewing is taught and produce grown on the farm. We are improving our carbon footprint with a programme of reforestation of several hundred species of indigenous trees and plants.

Much of the work is among the communities who live on the rubbish tip and those who break stones for road construction. There is a daily feeding programme for rubbish tip children. A programme of support for the community of rock breakers is now in place.

La Barra

La Barra is an isolated fishing village at the mouth of the Rio Grande de Matagalpa on the Atlantic Coast. It can only be accessed by boat or on foot. Life here is without any mains services such as fresh water, electricity and drainage.

The Trust has constructed a clinic, solar and wind generating station, rice mill, water collection systems, wharf and hurricane refuge in recent years. Further projects are in progress to improve the quality of life in this village and the surrounding area.

Matagalpa

The Trust's model coffee farm at 3500ft in the mountains overlooking Matagalpa, grows indigenous and experimental crops as well as high quality coffee under the guidance of an experienced farm manager.

Near to the farm the Trust is supporting the development of a refuge for children who are at risk and without any family support.

On high ground above the farm’s wet mill an eco lodge/training centre is under construction. This exciting initiative is one that will improve the lives of many local farmers and will create much needed work in the region.
